The Full Story
West Side Meats was purchased in 1982 from Edwin "Schmo" Schilling by the Carla Lang family. They built it into a successful local business in Mobridge SD and throughout the region. West Side became widely known for their jerky and began to ship it all over the United States. When they graduated high school, Carla was joined by her two sons Tom and Chris in the family business. In 2016 a fire destroyed the meat market. A new, state of the art facility was built and reopened in 2017 and the Lang family picked up where they left off. Unfortunately, shortly after the new market reopened, Carla passed away. In February of 2021, the Lang brothers made the decision to sell West Side Meats Inc. to the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Buffalo Authority Corporation and they are running it today, carrying on the quality standards and great products Carla made the West Side name famous for.
